If ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Gas caps aren’t broke and useless. In 2006, the automaker promised to wipe caps off its lineup. The capless refueling system already is available on the 2008 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle, and it's coming to the 2009 Flex crossover and Lincoln MKS luxury sedan.
Ford making gas caps a thing of the past. Nascar technology now on select models will eventually be on all vehicles.
While on the road, you will be able to tell an E85 Crown Victoria from an ordinary gas-guzzler by a yellow cap on its gas tank.
Obviously, this is kind of old news but I saw this recommendation on the gas cap of my rental car and thought WTF. The advertisement doesn't really surprise me but I'm glad I don't own a ford.
Have you ever forgotten to screw your gas cap back on after filling up at the pump? Or maybe you're one of the types that don't do the full three clicks that carmakers insist you should do? In any case, Ford is hoping to abandon the conventional gas cap in 2008, replacing it with what they call the "Capless Fuel Filler."
